Serial Cards Overview

 

The PC-COM ISA bus and 32 bits PCI bus Plug and Play (PnP) Serial Interface Adapters provide asynchronous serial communication ports (RS232 or RS422 / RS485), which link up the computer and the serial peripheral devices such as Terminals, Modems, PLCs, Serial Printers, Plotters, ... etc.

 

The PC-COM Serial Adapters are particularly suited to facilitate the connection of terminals (VDUS) in multi-user operating systems. The PC-COM Serial Adapters may be installed in any Pentium or hardware compatible systems. The PnP features allow hardware configuration for IRQ and I/O address to be self detected by the BIOS automatically. You do not need to set any switches or jumpers.

 

Since most of the computer has its own COM1 and COM2, the PC-COM PCI bus Serial Adapters can be configured from COM4.

 

On board 16C550 chip is installed for each ISA Bus serial port. Provides 16 bytes FIFO buffer with baud rate speed up to 115200. The PCI Bus Serial Adapters are Super High Speed versions. Baud rates are up to 460K with 16C650 chips installed.

Introduction
The PCFACE-IIIC is especially useful for applications such as PC-based data-acquisition and control, where a large number of I/O points must be measured and an unusually large number of add-on cards are required.

The PCFACE-IIIC consists of a master interface card that plugs into a slot on your existing PC, a slave interface card that plugs into a slot on your passive-backplane-based expansion chassis and a cable or adaptor set.

Build-in buffering circuits enable the PCFACE-IIIC to reliably drive and receive all bus signals within 45cm extension cables. The slots on the expanded side are fully transparent to the most plug-in cards and software. In addition, you can plug and unplug cards installed on the expanded side simply by turning off the power supply, the host PC is not disturbed.
